Our Assisi,
of Carlo Cianetti

Thanks to this quarterly, Assisi has got its own means of communication especially dedicated to tourists. Eventhough its title "Assisi Mia" may seem taken for granted, it also implies a second meaning which is sometimes neglected by those who live and work in a tourist-oriented town. It is exstremely important to help tourists in feeling well at ease during their stay. For that reason we thought it better to give you some useful information such as the timetable of churches, monuments and libraries, means of transportation and descriptions of the main events. We have also included some other historical and artistic information concerning interesting itineraries and valuable beauties usually unknown because the town visit is normally too short and superficial. There are several articles about hidden treasures or works of art considered as minor works instead of masterpieces. Among those we mentioned the presumed Properzio's House, the shrine painted by Cola Petruccioli which, together with so many others, adorne the old buildings and urgently need to be restored. We would also recommend to read the article dealing with the restoration of St. Rufino façade, one of the most elegant monument in Assisi and probably the most loved by its inhabintans. Without any polemic tone we would like to let the visitor be aware of the Assisi reality in the hope he will be able to give us a contribution with his ideas and good energies in order to prevent Assisi from degradation. Apart from the artistic aspects we have also included some sort of anthropological articles concerning the social life of this town. Eventhough Assisi is well-known all over the world and privileged for its incomparable spiritualness, it always remains a small town with its positive and negative aspects. In conclusion, "Assisi Mia" intends to become a means of communication between visitors and citizens, including also the public administration.
